Daily Scripture Reading

The former Yale University Theologian and Scholar Dr. Hans Frei once described the Bible as being “an identity description of God.” The Scriptures are a place where we can deepen our knowledge of God and of the great story of faith. In the ancient Hebrew language, the word for knowledge and relationship are synonymous. As a result, to read the scriptures is to deepen our relationship with God and with the men and women of faith whose stories are also recorded in these ancient texts.

The words of Scripture are foundational to our faith. The Bible is a living book. During his earthly ministry Jesus displayed a deep knowledge of Scripture, even reading from the book of Isaiah as a young boy.

There are opportunities to read and reflect on Scripture at St. Stephen’s on-the-Hill. When our Prayer Group meets, time is taken to reflect on the upcoming Sunday’s text. Also, one of the focuses of our worship is Biblically based preaching. Yet finding a way to incorporate reading Scripture in our daily life can be a challenge. Please use the link below that will take you to a choice of daily scripture readings.
